Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the Asian River Rafting Championship, being organized from 4th March to 9th March, 2024 on River Sutlej, near Basantpur, (Sunni) from the Ridge Shimla today. As many as 20 National and International teams from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Iran Iraq, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Indonesia are participating in this championship.
After flagging off the teams participating in the championship, the Chief Minister said that the present State Government was committed to promote adventure tourism in the State and in this direction, a river rafting marathon was also successfully organized at Nadaun in Hamirpur district recently.
Besides this, a paragliding championship was also hosted at Junga in Shimla district last year in association with a private company involved in organizing adventure sports. He said that apart from promoting tourism, the hosting of adventure sports and other related tourism activities also creates self-employment opportunities and provides employment to the local people thus adding to their economy.
He said that the State Government would keep supporting these adventure activities in future as well.The Chief Minister said that the tourism sector was the mainstay in strengthening the State's economy and thousands of families were associated with this.
The State Government is making earnest efforts to increase the influx of tourists in the State by strengthening the basic infrastructure in the tourism sector. We have fixed a target of attracting five crore tourists in the state annually, he reiterated.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Chairman, 7th State Finance Commission Nand Lal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohan Lal Brakta, MLA Harish Janartha, Chairman, H.P. State Cooperative Bank Devender Shyam, Vice Chairman, H.P. State Forest Development Corporation, Kehar Singh Khachi, Mayor Shimla Municipal Corporation Surinder Chauhan, Congress leaders Satpal Raizada and Surender Mankotia, Director Tourism and Civil Aviation Manasi Sahay Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

मुख्यमंत्री ठाकुर सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने आज शिमला के ऐतिहासिक रिज मैदान से 4 से 9 मार्च, 2024 तक बसंतपुर के निकट सतलुज नदी में आयोजित की जा रही एशियन रिवर राफ्टिंग चैम्पियनशिप में भाग लेने वाली टीमों को हरी झंडी दिखाकर चैम्पियनशिप शुभारंभ किया। इस प्रतियोगिता में नेपाल, भूटान, श्रीलंका, ईरान, इराक, तजाकिस्तान, कजाकिस्तान तथा इंडोनेशिया सहित 20 टीमें भाग ले रही है।
ठाकुर सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने कहा कि प्रदेश सरकार राज्य में पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। हाल ही में जिला हमीरपुर के नादौन में राफ्टिंग मैराथन और गत वर्ष जिला शिमला के जुन्गा में पैराग्लाइडिंग प्रतियोगिता का सफल आयोजन किया गया। राज्य में लोगों को रोजगार और स्वरोजगार के अवसर उपलब्ध करवाने के लिए साहसिक खेल गतिविधियों का आयोजन करवाया जा रहा है। इससे प्रदेश ने राजस्व बढ़ौतरी के साथ-साथ लोगों की आर्थिकी भी सुदृढ़ होती है।
मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि पर्यटन क्षेत्र राज्य की अर्थव्यवस्था का आधार है इससे हजारों परिवार प्रत्यक्ष और अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से जुड़े हुए हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रदेश सरकार पर्यटन क्षेत्र की अधोसंरचना को मजबूत कर राज्य में पर्यटकों की आवाजाही को बढ़ाने के लिए दृढ़ प्रयास कर रही है ताकि एक वर्ष में पांच करोड़ पर्यटकों के आगमन का लक्ष्य हासिल किया जा सके।
उद्योग मंत्री हर्षवर्धन चौहान, सातवें वित आयोग के अध्यक्ष नंदलाल, मुख्य संसदीय सचिव मोहन लाल ब्राक्टा, विधायक हरीश जनारथा, हिमाचल प्रदेश राज्य सहकारी बैंक के अध्यक्ष देवेन्द्र श्याम, हिमाचल प्रदेश राज्य वन विकास निगम के उपाध्यक्ष केहर सिंह खाची, नगर निगम शिमला के महापौर सुरेंद्र चौहान, कांग्रेस के नेता सतपाल रायजादा और सुरेंद्र मनकोटिया, निदेशक पर्यटन एवं नागरिक उड्डयन मानसी सहाय ठाकुर, उपायुक्त अनुपम कश्यप और अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्ति इस अवसर पर उपस्थित थे।
