Today on 2 February, 2024, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Amritsar Harpreet Singh inaugurated sanitation drive around golden temple and took round of the areathe areas falling under walled city . He passed directions on the spot to the sanitation staff for proper brooming of all the approach roads to golden temple and directed the garbage lifting company officials to lift the garbage on daily basis.
He started his round from outside Sri Harmandir sahib to Sarai Guru Ram Dass, Chowk Baba sahib, galliara, Ramsar Road to Shri Shahidasahib,then back to Bazar Gantaghar, katra Ahluwalia, Moti Bazar, Heritage street,Town Hall, KatraJaimalSingh,KesriBagh,Sherawala gate. He also passed directions to the Civil as well as Operation & Maintenance officials to fill path-holes & get the sewerage lines clear in all the areas around Shri harmandir sahib.
He directed all the sanitation staff to keep their respective areas clean & get the garbage lifted on daily basis. Commissioner Harpreet Singh said in press release that when he joined as Commissioner Municipal Corporation,Amritsar he took it as a challenge to make the city clean & green especially areas around Sri Harmandir Sahib and Sri Durgiana Temple.
He said many complaints were pouring in regarding sanitation & non lifting of garbage around golden temple and it is the clear cut directions of the Local Bodies Minister S. Balkar Singh ji to keep the city clean as Amritsar is a tourist hub and due to its religious & historical importance, lacs of tourists from all around the world visit the city daily.
So it is utmost duty of Municipal Corporation,Amritsar to give a clean & green view of the city to the citizens as well as visitors. Commissioner Harpreet Singh said Municipal Corporation is committed to keep the city clean & garbage free but it can only be possible if we work as a team.
The shopkeepers should maintain wet & dry bins at their premises & not to throw their garbage on the roads. He said this sanitation drive will continue in all the parts of the city and surprise checks will be done to review the progress.
