Director General of Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G), Jammu and Kashmir Anoo Malhotra embarked on a comprehensive tour across various panchayats of the Jammu district, here today. The primary objective of the tour was to gain firsthand insights into the utility and functional status of assets created for sustainable sanitation.

The tour commenced with a visit to the Green Zone developed at Panchayat Kharian of Block Miran Sahib, where a littering roadside hotspot was transformed into a beautiful spot, showcasing the mission's commitment to enhance environmental aesthetics and cleanliness.

 Later, the Director General visited Panchayat Gazipur Kullian to assess the functionality of a segregation shed. “This assessment is pivotal in ensuring the effectiveness of such units in contributing to a cleaner environment,” she told the local gathering and officers.

Ms. Malhotra also flagged off the "My 10 Kg Plastic Campaign" in Panchayat Gazipur Kullian. The campaign aims to encourage community participation in reducing plastic waste by fostering responsible usage and disposal practices. She further stressed that Panchayats should adopt the Carbon neutral steps to make it successful.

She encouraged the field officers to conduct the survey of the villages by experts to estimate the carbon these villages produce and the possible remedial measures to be taken there. Moving on to Marh Block, the Director General assessed the status of the GOBARdhan plant at Panchayat Dhateryal, highlighting the importance of sustainable waste-to-energy solutions. 

Additionally, she inspected the Pink Toilet and Community Compost Pit in the Panchayat, emphasizing the mission's multifaceted approach to sanitation.In Village Ladore within the same Panchayat, the Director General evaluated the functional status of the segregation shed , an integral component of waste management infrastructure. 

These on-site assessments contribute to the mission's continuous efforts to improve and optimize sanitation assets in rural areas.Throughout the tour, the Director General actively engaged with local communities, gaining valuable insights into the challenges and successes of sustainable sanitation initiatives. 

These visits underscore the mission's commitment to evidence-based decision-making and strategic interventions for a cleaner and healthier Jammu and Kashmir. The Director General emphasized upon adopting sustainable models keeping in view the significance of this national mission. She maintained that after achieving the status of ODF+ Model category for the UT, it is imperative to maintain it without any slackness in our approach.
