Munjal Birmingham University Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MBCIE) at Ludhiana is a joint venture of BCM Foundation (Hero Group) and Birmingham City University (BCU) UK that aims to promote industrial innovation and startups in the region. MBCIE is designed as a centre for innovation, research, and creative production where technology, art, and design nurture innovation and creativity while triggering industrial revival. 

Postgraduate, Undergraduate and Short Term Programmes in collaboration with BCU will be offered, based on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) approach. MBCIE inaugurated with immense pride its pioneering academic offering, the Masters in Applied Metaverse and Digital Leadership Programme at Ludhiana today. 

This marks a significant milestone in its journey towards providing cutting-edge education that aligns with the rapidly evolving landscape of digital technology and innovation. Speaking on the occasion Mr S.K. Rai, Vice Chairman of Hero Cycles, in his welcome address stated that the Metaverse is an immersive digital universe that encompasses augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and other transformative technologies.

Metaverse is undergoing unprecedented growth. It is reshaping industries and education, creating new avenues for engagement and interaction. 

Recent years have witnessed a remarkable surge in job opportunities related to Metaverse technology, with listings increasing by over 150% since 2021. He said that MBCIE will in consent with BCU would strive to add at least another 4 courses covering subject of extreme importance for future leadership but yet not offered in Punjab. 

Single point focus of MBCIE is to prepare students of Punjab in futuristic technologies pertaining to digital leadership.Delivering his keynote address, Prof Julian Beer Deputy Vice Chancellor, BCU, underscored the pivotal role of STEAM-based education. 

He emphasized the uniqueness of this program in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and encouraging students from various disciplines to participate. Prof. Beer articulated that the program's significance goes beyond mere information acquisition. 

It's about fostering connections, moulding perspectives, and instilling the practical wisdom essential for thriving in the constantly evolving Metaverse and digital business environment. By embracing a STEAM approach and promoting cross-disciplinary engagement, this program empowers students to become adaptable, forward-thinking leaders in the dynamic world of technology and business.

Mr Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, MBCIE said Metaverse technology is being actively embraced by various industries, including gaming, entertainment, education, and businesses. Companies across these sectors are actively recruiting talent with expertise in Metaverse-related roles such as 3D designers, VR developers, Metaverse architects, virtual world builders, and Metaverse content creators. 

The Metaverse is not just a technological phenomenon; it's a transformative force that is driving innovation and reshaping the way we live, work, and learn. In the business world, the Metaverse is ushering in a new era of virtual storefronts, immersive product demonstrations, global collaboration, and innovative marketing strategies. 

It's revolutionizing customer engagement and operational efficiency. In the field of education, the Metaverse is offering realistic simulations, virtual classrooms, and interactive learning experiences accessible from anywhere, bridging geographical gaps and making education more inclusive.

With the Metaverse becoming integral to various industries, there's an increasing demand for skilled professionals who can harness its potential. Students proficient in Metaverse technology are poised to drive innovation, shape the future, and unlock new possibilities in the digital realm.

Speaking on the programme design, Dr Vijay Venkatesh, Programme Lead said the meticulously designed Master's program is tailored to meet the industry's demand for skilled practitioners, adept managers, and visionary leaders in the technology realm. Students will undertake their 1st Semester Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Ludhiana, followed by their 2nd Semester studies and Capstone Project at Birmingham City University's UK Campus. 

The program aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders who excel as developers and are ready to assume leadership and managerial roles in the future. This program is the first STEAM-based degree, emphasizing the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. 

The cross-disciplinary nature of the curriculum equips students with a versatile skill set that transcends traditional boundaries. By collaborating across diverse disciplines, students gain the ability to make informed decisions at the intersection of technology and management within the context of Metaverse digital transformation.

Concluding the discussion, Dr Prem Kumar, Executive Director, MBCIE, said the educational experience at MBCIE extends beyond academic knowledge. It's about becoming part of a dynamic network of creative and like-minded individuals. Students forge connections, shape perspectives, and acquire the practical wisdom necessary to excel in the ever-evolving Metaverse and digital business landscape.

The M.Sc. Applied Metaverse and Digital Leadership Programme at MBCIE is not just an educational journey; it's a transformative experience that prepares students to thrive in the dynamic and immersive digital universe of the Metaverse.
