The women self-help groups (SHGs) of Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) have taken a momentous stride towards sustainability and women empowerment by manufacturing Gobar Diyas.

As part of their commitment to the nationwide "Meri Mati Mera Desh" campaign, these SHGs have produced eco-friendly and innovative Diyas. The campaign, which aims to foster "Jan Bhagidari" in commemoration of India's 75 years of independence, has been embraced wholeheartedly by these women artisans.

Utilizing cow dung, an easily available and renewable resource, alongside natural colors, the SHG artisans from different rural areas in Jammu Division have showcased their expert craftsmanship and artistic vision by creating a breathtaking assortment of hand-painted designs that reflect the region's rich cultural heritage.

These Gobar Diyas are not only biodegradable but also emit no harmful pollutants, ensuring a smoke-free environment. By incorporating such eco-friendly practices, the SHGs not only benefit the ecosystem but also promote the well-being and health of individuals during festive occasions.

In addition to contributing to sustainable living, these women have also addressed the issue of waste management within their communities by utilizing cow dung as a raw material. Mission Director JKRLM, Indu Kanwal Chib, commended the insightful approach and dedication displayed by the women SHGs, She said that their participation in this initiative has not only empowered themselves but has also played a significant role in safeguarding our natural resources.

The introduction of Gobar Diya production by the women SHGs demonstrates their commitment to creating a greener and healthier environment for future generations, she added Furthermore, MD expressed her appreciation for the affordability of the Gobar Diyas, as they will be made available to the local community at reasonable prices.

This initiative serves as an excellent platform to raise awareness about sustainable practices and instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment during festivals and celebrations. The Mission Director lauded the women SHGs for their remarkable work and urged them to continue their efforts in promoting sustainable practices.

By embracing eco-friendly alternatives like Gobar Diyas, these women inspire others and leave a positive impact not only on their communities but also on the planet as a whole, she maintained. To ensure the availability of Gobar Diyas to the interested individuals, she also mentioned that the JKRLM Umeed Helpline No (18002020383) will provide more information regarding the purchasing process.
