Succeeding in the campaign launched against drug peddlers and anti-social elements, Rupnagar police have arrested four interstate drug peddlers including one woman and recovered one kilogram of heroin, 143 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 01 lakh drug money and a Fortuner car.

Talking to the media in this regard through a press conference, SSP Mr. Vivek S Soni said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Bhagwant Singh Maan and DGP Mr. Gaurav Yadav, Rupnagar Police is conducting a strict campaign against drug peddlers by forming special teams, under which one kilogram of heroin was seized from four drug peddlers, including a woman. 

The accused used to use a Fortuner vehicle to show themselves impressive and to dodge the police, which was searched and a large amount of drugs, gold and drug money was seized. Mr. Vivek S Soni said that on June 22, 2023, a police party of CIA staff had recovered 300 grams of heroin from accused Gaurav Kumar alias Happy alias Billa resident of Pind Ghanoli police station Sadar Rupnagar in Baleno car No. HP12P 6080. A case was registered under U/S 22/61/85 NDPS at Rupnagar police station against accused. 

After his interrogations, his fellow smugglers Sandeep Singh, resident of Nalagarh (H.P.) and Sukhpreet Singh, resident of village Makhan Viddi Chowki, Jandiala Guru, district Amritsar, were also named as accused in this case. Sukhpreet Singh was arrested on 25 June 2023.

SSP further disclosed that acting swiftly on information received from Sandeep Singh during interrogations, SP (Detective) Dr. Navneet Singh Mahal PPS, DSP (Detective) Talwinder Singh Gill and DSP Ajay Singh were taken immediate action to arrest drug smugglers.

He stated that on July 20, 2023, Rupnagar police stopped Fortuner vehicle no. PB29AE 8391 from which four persons namely Sohan Lal resident of village Dhandiya police station Sadar Banga district SBS Nagar, Baljit Singh resident of village Chicha, Veer Singh alias Veeru resident of Attari police station Gharinda district Amritsar (rural) and a woman Poonam alias Mona who is the wife of convict Gaurav Kumar and recovered one kg heroin from them. 

Case No. 57 dated 29.07.2023 U/S 22/61/85 NDPS Act registered against all accused at Police Station Sri Kiratpur. With the arrest of these drug peddlers, police have achieved in breaking the chain of a wide drug network.

SSP said that eight cases have already been registered against the main smuggler Sohan Lal at Sadar Banga Police Station, District S.B.S. and this accused was also wanted in the recovery of 520 grams of heroin in Hoshiarpur.

He said that the drug peddlers who spoil the lives of the youth will not be spared at any cost and police remand is being obtained by presenting the accused in the court today, during interrogation of the accused more important revelations and recovery are expected.
