Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra today advised the leaders of political parties that have been ruling for 70 years in Punjab to refrain from playing politics on natural disaster, stating that previous dispensations had not taken effective measures to control the flow of the Ghaggar river, resulting in heavy rainfall causing significant damage to villages of Samana.

"However, the people of these villages should not panic in any way as Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann has firmly stood by the affected people", said Jauramajra. He mentioned that our government spent more than Rs.40 lakh to drain water from the affected areas in order to prevent damage from floods and save this low-lying area of Samana.

He emphasized that it is also the first time that unlike previous Chief Ministers, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his Cabinet Colleagues and MLAs are personally involved in reaching out to the affected people and providing them assistance.

Taking a dig at BJP leader Bibi Jai Inder Kaur, Cabinet Minister S. Jauramajra asked about her whereabouts, saying that Bibi Jai Inder Kaur should be there even today to mitigate the pain of the people. He said that Bibi should understand that the water hasn't receded from the villages yet, and people still need help.

"Actually, Bibi Jai Inder Kaur came only for politics, but now it is time to lend a sympathetic hand to the people, not to shine your politics, categorically said Jauramajra, adding that political leaders should not shed crocodile tears on natural disaster but to show sympathy and do something for people's well-being.

He said that instead of going in a helicopter like the chief ministers of previous governments, Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann himself is meeting affected people by stepping barefoot into the waters.

S. Jauramajra today led the relief operations to deliver drinking water, ration, other items of household use, medicines to the residents and fodder for animals in flood-affected villages of Dharmeri, Gheura, Dhanouri, Sassa, Sassi, Sassa Theh, Haripur etc.
