Public Works and Power Minister Punjab Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO on Friday laid the foundation stone for the widening of the Bela to Behrampur road at village Bela. He was accompanied by MLA Sri Chamkaur Sahib constituency Mr. Charanjit Singh and Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Dr. Preeti Yadav.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government is living up to its commitment for the overall development of the state. He said that the process of widening and strengthening the Bela-Bahrampur road under Rupnagar district at a cost of 4.80 crore rupees has been initiated to fulfill the long pending demand of the people of this area. 

He said that the current width of this road is 18 feet which will be increased to 23 feet. He said that this road would be completed in next 6 months. He said that this Bela to Behrampur road connects Sri Chamkaur Sahib block of Rupnagar and Machiwara of Ludhiana district. 

Divulging further, the minister said that soon after the Bela to Panyali bridge gets approval from the Forest Department and other required approvals, the construction of a 1152 meter long bridge on the Sutlej river would be started at a cost of more than Rs. 100 crores.

Giving details of efforts made to ensure better power supply, Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the guarantee of zero electricity has been fulfilled by the Punjab government. He said that the maximum power demand of 14,311 MW was met last year and this year breaking its own record, 15,054 MW power demand was met on June 22.

S. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the MLA Shri Chamkaur Sahib constituency Mr. Charanjit Singh had brought to his attention that the residents of the area were demanding widening of Bela-Bahrampur road since long but this demand was neglected by the previous governments. 

He said that in the last 15 months Punjab government led by Bhagwant Singh Maan has completed so many works and task that previous governments failed to perform during their entire term. He said that tireless efforts were being made by the government to make Punjab a Rangla Punjab again.

On this occasion, SDM Shri Chamkaur Sahib Amrik Singh, Chairman Market Committee Skinder Singh Sahei, Xen Public Works Department S.S. Bhullar, SE Public Works Department Ramtesh Bains, NP Rana, SP Navneet Singh Mahal, DSP Jarnail Singh and other senior officers, officials were also present.
