Deputy Commissioner Reasi Babila Rakwal today chaired a meeting of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to discuss formulation of Action Plan for enforcement of Road Safety measures, decongestion and ensuring smooth traffic flow in the district.
The meeting held threadbare deliberations with regard to management of traffic, including identification of black spots, removal of road side objects that distract drivers, creating awareness about road safety rules through print and electronic media, improvement of lighting on vital roads, better functioning of Intelligent Traffic Management System, regular health/eye checkups of drivers and conductors etc.
The DC stressed upon all the stakeholder departments to be proactive in formulating a comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan on priority basis. DC stressed on the concerned officers to take all required measures to decongest the City roads for smooth flow of traffic.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned departments to spread mass awareness about traffic rules and regulations through print and electronic media. The Deputy Commissioner directed all the members to make coordinated efforts to ensure safety on roads and prompt emergency care.
Deputy Commissioner asked concerned department to install reflective mirror on blind curves, to ensure that parking space banners are also installed on the road side of katra, to identify the sixteen spots for three wheeler parking, installation of bio- toilets at different locations of Katra and Reasi, to make zebra crossing near schools and hospitals.
The DC also asked for identifying suitable land for a scrap yard in the district. While stressing on the need to educate the masses about the road safety rules, the DC directed the ARTO Reasi for organizing special road safety awareness camps for drivers/conductors and motivating them to follow the golden rules of traffic.
The DC directed EO MC Reasi and Katra to work out modalities for tackling the menace of stray animals which cause traffic obstruction and pose danger to commuters.On the occasion SSP Reasi, ADC Reasi Abdual Star, ADDC Jyoti Slathia, ARTO Reasi, ACD, CPO, CEO, CMO, Xens of PWD Reasi/Katra/ Mahore, Xens of PMGSY Reasi/Mahore, representative of GREF and other members were present.
