The 2-Day conference on New Education Policy (NEP) - 2020 concluded today here at P.S.P.S. Govt. PG College for women, Gandhi Nagar.The Conference was an initiative of the Department of Higher Education and the colleges which hosted this landmark and momentous conference for the first time in Jammu division were Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, P.S.P.S. Govt. PG Colleges for Women, Gandhi Nagar, MAM College, SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu Division.

Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University was the chief Guest , while Rakesh Badyal, Special Secretary, HED, J&K; Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges ,HED, J&K   presided over different sessions.The concluding session began with a formal welcome address by Prof. G.S. Rakwa, Principal, MAM College.

 Prof. S.P. Saraswat, Principal, Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, gave a brief overview about the two-day conference.This was followed by the concluding remarks about the conference by Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges.She quoted Neil Armstrong “one step for man and leap for mankind.” 

By this she meant that holistic education was like one step by NEP and the leap of mankind is about pedagogy which will evolve in a phased manner by making education more experimental, learned centre, discussion based, flexible and of course enjoyable.  Rakesh Badyal, Special Secretary, HED, J&K, in his address, informed the participants that 19-B.Voc Programmes will start in 16 identified colleges from this session.

 “Similarly, 14 GDCs have been identified to establish CIIITs under the Hub/Spoke model which will be beneficial for vocational education in J&K. IIT and IIM Jammu, will also develop 10 incubation centres in Degree Colleges under Hub/Spoke Model” he added.Prof. Umesh Rai, Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his Valedictory address said that entire NEP is based on Gandhian thought of education ie. Mind, Body and Spirit.

“Education is directly connected with the ‘Nature’ & ‘Society.’ Application of Information Technology, Mathematical Ability, and Analytical and Communication skill should be made mandatory in the curriculum of HEIs to make good foundation of the students” he emphasised. He concluded his note by saying that financial autonomy should be given to Universities and Colleges to move towards excellence. 

This was followed by cultural Bonanza that included Classical Music, Jagarna (cultural dance) and Ghomar dance by girls from various colleges.The Valedictory Session concluded with a “Vote of Thanks” by Prof. Sugandha Mahajan, Dept. of Botany, P.S.P.S. Govt. PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
