Continuing its drive against the proclaimed offenders, the Kapurthala police have arrested a Delhi-based fugitive couple on the run since 2019 in a 5-kg heroin supply case after tracking them down while travelling in a train.The arrested couple has been identified as Deepak Kumar of J 17/B Beri Wala Bagh Gali no-2, Hari Nagar, Mayapuri in Delhi and his wife Preeti.Divulging the details in a press release, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that a special campaign is underway against the proclaimed offenders and especially PO’s (Big fishes) of drug-related cases in the district.SSP said that Kapurthala police teams received a tip-off regarding the couple travelling in train from Delhi towards Punjab and tracked them down near Jalandhar Cantonment railway station and apprehended them from the train.

He said that the couple was wanted to Kapurthala police in case no 126 dated August 1, 2019, registered in Sadar Kapurthala police station under the sections of the NDPS Act in which 5-kg heroin was recovered from the accused and this couple was declared proclaimed offender by the court in this case.The SSP revealed that during interrogation, the couple revealed that they were going to deliver a consignment of heroin which was hidden in a bag and they had left abandoned under their seat in the train.He said that the arresting team was not informed about the bag at that time.SSP added that this bag was later recovered unclaimed under seat number 21,22 in Ac compartment A1 by the Railway police party at Pathankot Railway Station and they have also registered a case Fir no 32 dated 23.09.2021 under section 21 NDPS Act at GRP police station Pathankot.He said that Kapurthala police have produced them before the magistrate and have taken them on police remand so that the entire chain of drug supply can be busted and other members of this gang can be arrested.
