Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary, on Thursday, virtually kick started the inaugural function of month-long events across the state on the theme "Dheeiyan Di Lohri" from village Bakarpur, district SAS Nagar, while the concluding event would be held at Ferozepur.During her address, the Cabinet Minister expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, who participated in "Dheeyian Di Lohri" function from state headquarters. She said, in order to break the stereotype of celebrating the 'Lohri' of boys alone, the Chief Minister has come up with a innovative idea to celebrate the Lohri of girls, thus the department is celebrating "Dheeiyan Di Lohri" every year and honouring the parents of new born girl child.Mrs. Chaudhary said that these events would be conducted for a entire month of January at various places in all the districts of the state, during which the first Lohri of about 1.5 lakh new born girls of the state would be celebrated, wherein the parents would be handed over a certificate of behalf of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Today, the first event has been kick-started from district SAS Nagar, while the concluding event of the 'Dheeiyan Di Lohri' would be marked by grand celebrations during a state level function at Ferozepur, where the parents and grandparents of new born girls would be honoured, she added.The Cabinet Minister also honoured the parents of the newborn girls with certificates, shawls, blankets and gifts.Principal Secretary Mrs. Raji P. Shrivastava, Director Mr. Vipul Ujjwal and District Program Officer Mr. Sukhdeep Singh was present on the occasion.Apart from village Bakarpur, the "Dheeiyan Di Lohri" events were also held at Government Senior Secondary School, Dera Bassi and Government Senior Secondary School, village Hoshiarpur of block Majri.
