At least 11 Block Offices out of 16 are without Block Development Officers (BDO) in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, resulting in piling up of files and works of people.According  to the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), sources said that most of the Block Offices in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district are currently headless while as the BDOs  from other offices have been given additional charge, which has caused anguish among the people.“The files of many people are gathering dust at the Block Offices as  authorities have miserably failed to appoint BDOs since long,” they said, adding that it has caused anguish among the people including Contractors as their files are pending.

Anantnag district has 16 Block Offices which includes Anantnag, Achabal, Bijbehara, Breng, Chattargul, Dachnipora, Hillar, Khodipora, Larnoo, Pahalgam, Qazigund, Sagam,  Shahabad, Shangus, Verinag and Vessu.Sources, however, said that five offices including Dachnipora, Khodipora, Shahabad, Verinag and Breng have proper BDOs while rest 11  offices are suffering in absence of proper heads. They told that the BDOs from other offices have been given additional charges to run the business there. They, however, as per  sources fail to come up to the expectations of people as they are not able to come to the offices regularly, leaving the people to lurch at large. Assistant Commissioner  Development (ACD) Anantnag, Rural Development Department (RDD), Muhammad Aslam admitted that most of Block Offices across the district are headless, stating that he has  already informed the higher ups in this regard. “We will take ups the matter once again with the higher ups and will try to end the sufferings of people,” he said.
