18-Kg Tomatoes Destroyed In A Special Drive

Team Finds Tomatoes Unfit For Human Consumption During Checking

In a special drive against fruits and vegetables unfit for the human consumption under ‘Tandarust Punjab’ Mission, a team of district administration on Friday destroyed around 18-kg tomatoes in the local wholesale fruit and vegetable market.The special team headed by District Mandi Officer (DMO) Mr Varinder Khera and others started the inspection of wholesale fruit and vegetable market at Maqsudan in the morning. The team checked the crates of apple, bananas, tomatoes and bags of potatoes, onion and others during visit to various shops.The team found few crates of tomatoes around 18-kg unfit for human consumption and acting swiftly, the team immediately destroyed the tomatoes and warned the traders that such sort of callousness on their part would not be tolerated at any cost.DMO said that the sale of unhygienic fruits and vegetables which is unfit for human consumption would not be allowed at any cost.Mr Khera further asserted that this drive would be continued in the coming days and stern action would be taken against the traders if they indulge in the malpractice of ripening the fruits artificially by using chemicals.He said that the district administration would leave no stone unturned under‘Tandarust Punjab’ mission to check the sale of such food items in the district, which poses a huge danger to human health.
