Family of rape victim demanded death penalty for accused

Family of a class X girl of village Soura near Kangra today demanded that her 60-year-old uncle be hanged to death after a fast track court trial for allegedly raping her. The demand was raised in a joint press conference organised at Kangra town by the grandmother of the victim Savitri Devi,her mother Balbir Kaur, village pradhan of Lower Icchhi Iqbal Singh and a social activist Baldev Dhiman. They said that the accused Harman, father of two sons one of them married, had allegedly raped her in her house which was under construction on January 27, last in village Soura in the outskirts of this town. They said that Kangra police registered a case under section 376 IPC and the medical report confirmed the rape. The accused was arrested on January 27 and was produced before the court here. He was remanded to police custody till, February 1 and later on to 14 day judicial custody. They demanded that the accused by hanged to death for this heinous crime of raping his 14-year-old niece. They said that they would request the Himachal Pradesh High Court to get the case tried in the fast track court and be presented and looked after by a District Attorney so that the justice be given to the victim. They demanded that the case be investigated by an officer of DSP level.
