Targeting resolution of traffic problems plaguing the State, the government has decided to construct 32 new Railway Over Bridges and Railway Under Bridges across the State. The RoBs/RUBs would be constructed in a period of two years at an estimated cost of Rs.1350 crore, said Vijay Inder Singla, PWD Minister, Punjab while talking to media sin Amritsar.He said although these projects cover far and wide yet Majha area in particular would be the greatest beneficiary with 7 ROBs/RUBs worth Rs. 355 crore for the region, including an ROB each at Amritsar, Tarntaran, Dina Nagar and Pathankot followed by RUB at Sujanpur and Nalunga in Pathankot and at Tibri road Gurdaspur. The Projects are at various stages of planning and execution but would see the light of day in time. Besides easing the vehicular traffic, the ROBs on all manned and unmanned level crossings would eliminate the risk of accidents due to human error, he added.
Talking of the work of four lane Bhandari Bridge Loop, Mr.Singla informed that it has been constructed under Bus Rapid Transit System having length of 650 meters and costing Rs. 41 Crores. This Railway Over Bridge has been designed and constructed to ease out the traffic jam on existing Bhandari bridge situated at heart of the city and is the lifeline of BRTS project. “During tenure of previous government, the half-baked, under construction BRTS project was inaugurated in a bid to garner goodwill in the eyes of public; it is our government that took up the case with the railway authorities and pressed upon them to complete Railway portion of Bhandari bridge loop in a given time frame’’, said Singla.Earlier, PWD Minister along with other Cabinet colleagues, Member Parliament and Legislatures of Amritsar, inaugurated the Bhandari Bridge Loop and dedicated it to public. He also laid the foundation stone of special repair work of Mudhal to Verka Canal section of Amritsar- Pathankot road and Vallah Railway Crossing to Amritsar Bypass stretch at a cost of Rs. 1.75 crore and Rs. 2.10 crore respectively.
