Punjab State Women Commission asks colleges to install CCTV Cameras, Complaint Boxes

The Punjab State Women's Commission has issued notices to all colleges across the state for installation of CCTV cameras in its campuses so that they can feel more secure besides putting Complaint Boxes for the facilitation of Girl students.Disclosing this here today, newly appointed chairperson of the Commission Ms. Manisha Gulati said that notices had been issued to colleges in this regard to safeguard girl students.The Chairperson, while listening to different issues at commission during special hearing, said that a massive awareness campaign would be started shortly. She said that 17 camps would be organized at different locations in the state to make aware the women for their rights. She also informed that Commission had decided to set up three-member committees in different cities for the protection of women rights so that their issues could be resolved at their doorsteps.

Ms. Gulati said that Commission would also issue directions to hospitals in the state for installation of CCTV Cameras.The Chairperson further disclosed that recently she called on Union Minister for Women and Child Development Ms. Maneka Gandhi at Delhi and urged her to develop and launch a nationwide App to provide one stop platform for women to register their grievances. She said that Union Minister had assured to take positive step in this regard. She informed that Commission will visit the Jails of the state to ascertain the problems, if any, of women inmates besides taking up their issues with the Jails Department for early solutions.Emphasising the need to provide free education and counseling of rape victims, Chairperson further said that imparting free education and counseling was the need of the hour to victims. She said that commission will also visit the women cell regularly to ensure the smooth functioning. Ms. Gulati further said that the prime motive of the commission is to unite the families and save the hard earned money and time.
