The Punjab Government would make major changes in the courses and syllabus of the technical education in the context of current and future needs of the industry to provide jobs to the youth of the state. Interacting with the media persons after surprise checking of the Government Polytechnic College Ranwan & Industrial Training Institute Bassi Pathana of District Fatehgarh Sahib, Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said that keeping in view the future of the youth of the state the Punjab government is ready to take every hard decision for the betterment of the technical education.On this occasion, he said that the performance of teachers & trainers of all the technical education institutes would be reviewed on regular basis. The administration of these institutions would be made more efficient and accountable as all the teachers would adopt the students in the relevant trades. 'The performance of trainers and teachers would be analyzed on the bases adopted students and action against non performers would be initiated,' added Channi.

Prior to this during the checking at Ranwan Polytechnic College, the minster suspended the absent superintendent, Mrs. Baljeet Kaur, who has been absent from last several days. Apart from this, Harjinder Singh, Principal of the college, was also issued show cause notice for not performing, he has been asked to clarify his situation within 21 days.After this, the Technical Education Minister alongwith local MLA Gurpreet Singh GP conducted surprise a check at ITI Bassi Pathana. The minister announced to develop ITI Bassi Pathana & Government Polytechnic Ranwan as Model Technical Education Institutes. He also announced grant of Rs 2 crore for the modernization of Bassi Pathana ITI. This amount would be spent for strengthening of infrastructure and in addition building additional class rooms, latest machinery for labs.Mr. Channi said that the new job orientated courses would be started and some present courses would be upgraded as per the demands of the present and future needs of the industrial units, the courses which are irrelevant would be closed.

The minister also disclosed that the department would launch awareness campaign to enroll more students in the government technical education institutions by highlighting the facilities which are being provided in the government institutes. He emphasized that the benefit of the Chief Minister's scholarship scheme should be given to every eligible student. He further said that the head of the organization has been instructed do counseling of school students in adjacent areas and encourage them to take admission in government polytechnic colleges and industrial training institutes.Technical Education Minister also informed that in order to ensure timely attendance of teachers and students in all the technical education institutes, bio-metric attendance system is being implemented which would be online with the head office. He said that on January 23, a special meeting has been called of the heads of all the polytechnic colleges to review the working of the colleges and future steps which are to be taken for strengthening to technical education in government polytechnic institutions.On this occasion MLA Gurpreet Singh, GP thanked Technical Education Minister for providing Rs 2 crore for the development of the Bassi Pathana ITI.
