President of Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) and former minister Ghulam Hassam Mir has criticised the ruling alliance for terminating the services of several government employees. In a statement issued to KNS, G H Mir has said that it was incumbent upon the government to follow the rule of law and due procedure while taking action against the government employees“A government servant cannot be fired at the whim of the ruling elite and any action has to be in conformity with the standard rules and regulations”, said Mir.Termed the termination as harsh and hasty decision, Mir said that the democratic government cannot act in autocratic way and take arbitrary actions against its citizens. He reminded the government that their spokesman lead the agitation against a similar action in 1990 during governor's rule and lamented that these people are authors of the present action. He said that the provision under which the government employees have been terminated is to be applied under extraordinary circumstances and does not suit a democratically elected government to resort to such a provision.“Termination is the last resort and the government should have exercised other options under law, if at all these employees were involved in any case”, Mir opined.DPN President appealed the government to review their decision and ensure that rule of law is followed before taking any such action.
