Jagmeet Singh Brar was welcomed in Malerkotla with an impressive roadshow ithat was jointly orgainsed by the local units of his Lok Hit Abhiyan and Aam Aadmi Party. The roadshow made its way through the city and its main Bazaar amidst loud cheering from local residents and showering of flower petals in a few places.Later Brar addressed workers of AAP and Lok Hit Abhiyan at Hotel Empire and congratulated them for their hard work and efforts in laying the foundation for electoral success. He said “I am touched by the love and affection of the people of Malerkotla and the enthusiasm among workers and supporters will ensure a clean sweep for AAP with record margins”. He praised the religious harmony and deep cultural ties of all religious communities in Malerkotla and said “From Malerkotla - the Sangam of religions and races, I appeal to the leaders of India & Pakistan to go back to the dialogue process – cross border terror, surgical army attacks, stopping water, stopping people from meeting are never going to solve anything”
While appraising those present of his recently completed three day tour of border camps he said “Whether it was ’47, ’65 or ’71 the greatest damage has been borne by Punjabis on both sides. Punjab was divided, Punjabis were killed, Punjab has suffered the most every time. Today again Punjab stands strongly with the Army as the first line of defense for India, but is Punjab’s sacrifice valued by our Govt?”Describing the conditions in border districts and evacuation camps he said “People are confused and scared, I saw thousands of trolleys and small trucks piled with belongings heading to camps where there is little arrangement and no information. This is leading to panic and fear among locals”He concluded his remarks by saying “Farmers already under the burden of loans have been forced to abandon standing crops, the sinking rural economy of Punjab will now go deeper into debt and unless the Govt does not release immediate compensation it will lead to many suicides in the coming days – today we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s birth anniversary, so Gandhi’s message of peace and Shastri’s Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan must go hand in hand – we have avenged our martyrs in Uri & Pathankot, now we must standby our farmers”
