Mrs Kiran Choudhry, Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP), questioned the wisdom of the Haryana Government, led by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, for hosting the event for the launch of its golden jubilee celebrations logo at the 'Kingdom of Dreams' (KoD) in Gurgaon which is a defaulter company and owes the government Rs 31 crore. She has demanded an inquiry into the decision to hold the event at KoDIn a statement issued here today, the former excise and taxation minister said that KOD owed the state government more than Rs 31 crore and his cheque had bounced. "Instead of getting an FIR registered against the party, the BJP Government decided to launch its golden jubilee celebrations logo from KoD, putting premium on frauds and wrong-doing," she said.
The KoD management had been issued several notices, the last one in August, for clearing the pending dues running into Rs 31.43 crore. So much so, in its last notice, the Haryana Urban Development Authority cautioned that should it fail to pay up, its operations as an entertainment hub would be stopped," she stated.Flaying the remark of the Chief Minister that an inquiry against KoD was a separate matter, Mrs Choudhry said "It amounts to giving explicit encouragement to defaulter companies and making them more defiant in not paying the dues. In the first place, the event should not have been held at KoD. But if held, instead of announcing to pay all costs, rent and expenses of the event, the Chief Minister should have ordered that these charges would be adjusted against the dues" she added, demanding an inquiry into the decision.
