Senior PDP leader and former Parliamentarian, Dr.Mehboob Beg has reacted to the Opposition’s constant endeavor to try and create an impression that PDP bastion (South Kashmir) is where the protests are at its peak and trying to lend it a political color.“Erstwhile Anantnag district comprising of Anantnag Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama has always been politically aware. Every politically conscious person would know that this is where not only the National Conference thrived at one point in time, but also Congress took roots under the able leadership of Mufti Sahab, even the CPIM has had two MLA’s , besides the Jamat-e-Islami having its own influential pockets. It is in this back drop that we must appreciate and recognize that Mehbooba Mufti toiled hard to create a space for herself and her party in the region and successfully created and then occupied a vast space and void, playing the most effective Opposition”’ said Dr.Beg.
Dr.Beg further pointed-out that with Mehbooba Mufti taking over the reins of the government, the roles have obviously changed and it was for the Opposition to occupy the space that had been created for them by Mehbooba Mufti’s constant hardwork. “It is strange that the Opposition which has failed miserably in discharging its role is trying to put the blame for its failure at the Chief Minister’s door-step. They have failed in discharging their role, a role that an Opposition party ought to discharge in any democratic set-up”’ said Dr.Beg.“No democratic set-up is complete without an effective and responsible Opposition and the role of the government of the day and the Opposition is often complimentary to each other. The Opposition has failed in its duties and responsibilities”’ remarked Beg. (CNS)
