Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president and former agriculture minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir Monday said the government should frame a committee to come up with a proper way of using the waqf income.Mir told KNS that the objective of structuring the Waqf board in 2003 during PDP-Congress rule in the state was not fulfilled. “The government should frame a committee of experts who will come up with the solution of using the waqf amount among local needy people,” he said.
He said that the waqf board in its beginning utilized the amount on constructing Islamic University and various others things, which benefitted the people.Mir said that local committees should also be framed so that the poor sector of the society will not be ignored and the amount be used in a proper way, adding that Shrine Board has constructed hospitals, University, and Technical College from the income of Shri Vaishnu Devi.“I appeal the government to frame a committee in this regard so that the waqf income will be used for the welfare of people,” he said.
