Punjab Football Association (PFA) club team has reached in finals of ConIFA world football cup being played at Abkhazia in Russia and will play its final on 5th June at 10.30 PM IST. In the semifinal held today evening PFA defeated Padania (Northern Italy) by 1-0.In a press release issued here today founder of Punjab Football Association team Harpreet Singh from UK said the confederation of independent football associations (ConIFA) world football cup is being played at Abkhazia, near Russia in which 12 international football teams from various countries are participating. The ConIFA was established in 2013 by those football associations/federations not affiliated to the governing body of FIFA.Harpreet Singh said Punjab team is playing in this cup since 3 years but this year it has reached the final stage.
He said PFA team in its earlier matches had defeated Sapmi with 1-0, Somaliland with 5-0 and in quarter finals Western Armenia was defeated with 3-2.He informed that following players and officials of the PFA are participating in this sporting competition:-Ash Malhotra, Jhai Dhillon, Arjun Purewal, Jaskaran Basi, Terlochan Singh, Aaron Minhas, Mohammed Omar Riaz, Amarvir Singh Sandhu (C), Karum Shankar, Gurjit Singh, Amar Purewal, Raajan Gill, Ricky Bains, Jordi Singh Sall, Aaron Singh Sekhon, Aaron Dhillon, Rehan Khalid and Rajpal Virk. Darren Wright is providing coaching to the team and Bhupinder Kaur is Physio and Reuben Hazell as manager with Amar Ali as assistant manager of PFA.Harpreet Singh said objective of the Punjab FA is to promote Panjabi identify, culture, heritage, history and tradition at international level through this acclaimed sport besides providing a global platform for Panjab to showcase their sporting ability to the world.Revealing his goals he emphasised that PFA will establish national football teams of Panjab in the next 5 years from India, Pakistan, Canada and USA to fulfil the aspirations of the Panjabi community worldwide.
