The Committee on Environment of the Legislative Assembly currently on four-day visit to Chenab valley districts of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar today inspected the Trauma Centre cum Accidental Hospital at Thathri. The Committee also took stock of cleanliness and sanitation of the town.Led by the chairman of the Committee, MLA, Mr G M Saroori, the visiting members of the panel include MLA Mumtaz Ahmed, MLA Gulzar Ahmed Wani, MLC Naresh Gupta and MLC Shyam Lal Bhagat.While inspecting the garbage dumping site at Thatri, the Committee expressed serious concern over open dumping of garbage along the banks of river Chenab as the same is polluting the river. The Committee directed the Deputy Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu to ensure that there is no open dumping of garbage in the notified area of Thatri. He was asked to prepare a DPR for non-hazardous dumping of garbage in the area.

Executive Officer Municipality Thatri was asked to complete slab work over the Nallah at Thatri which is becoming breeding ground for diseases.  “Cancel the contract of the non-serious contractor and float fresh tenders so that the Nallah is covered with concrete slab at the earliest,” the Committee directed.The Committee impressed upon Superintending Engineer, PWD Doda to work in tandem with Municipal Committee Thatri and ensure that all the blocked drains are cleared within a week. The SDM Thatri was asked to report the progress of work to the Committee.Committee also took stock of the healthcare facilities at Trauma Hospital Thatri and enquired from the patients about the facilities available to them. Chief Medical Officer, Doda was asked to ensure adequate supply of life saving drugs within two days in the hospital.

Committee also inspected medical store and the adjoining old building of Trauma Hospital and SE PWD was asked to submit the estimate for repairs and renovation of the old hospital building so that its repairs could be done at the earliest.Additional Secretary Health was asked to moot a proposal for posting of adequate staff at Trauma Hospital Thatri including a surgeon and gynecologist.Stock position of ration in Govt depots and progress on the ongoing roads were also reviewed in the meeting at Dak Bungalow Thatri.
