Yudh Nashian Virudh: DC urges social, religious, sports organisations to come forward against drug abuse

Says administration to ensure all possible support & assistance to addicts for rehabilitation

With a view to contain the drug abuse efficaciously in the district, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain on Monday called upon all social, religious, educational, sports organisations and NGOs to join hands with the administration under ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign of Punjab Government to wipe out this menace.

While holding a meeting of Civil, Police and Health officials here at District Administrative Complex, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain directed to further intensify the steps  to tackle drug abuse. She stated that administrator will extend full support and assistance to addicts  for their rehabilitation as adequate arrangements and facilities are available at de-addiction centers, re-habilitation centre and OOAT clinics. 

With the help of expert doctors, counsellors and constant medication the addicts can shun the drug abuse, said Aashika Jain adding that rehabilitation centre has several constructive activities schedule for those trapped in drugs.

Emphasising effective coordination amongst all line departments, DC said that the motive of ‘war against drugs’ was to get rid of this social menace for which education and awareness activities could play a pivotal role. 

She said that the teams of line departments should work in tandem with all stakeholders especially holding awareness activities to motivate youngsters toward sports so their unbounded energy could be channelise in positive way. 

She also stresses the need to further speed up the prevention plans and enforcement against drug abuse. Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Harbans Kaur also briefed the Deputy Commissioner about the   future requirements and existing infrastructure & arrangements at all 20 de-addiction centres, 60-bedded rehabilitation centre, 15 OOAT clinics in the district.

SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik also directed the police officials to ensure strict enforcement under war against drugs campaign in collaboration with other departments concerned. Additional Deputy Commissioner Nikas Kumar, senior police officials of police and health departments were also present in the meeting.
