DC Komal Mittal Calls for massive awareness campaign on drug menace

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal has stressed on massive awareness campaign against the drug menace in the district by holding seminars in educational institutions with the help of counselors and motivators who have been shun the drugs.
Taking a review meeting of District De-addiction & Rehabilitation Society, SAS Nagar, she go through the working of OOAT centres and De-addiction and Rehabilitation centres running in the district. She said that the private de-addiction and rehabilitation centres must be inspected on regular intervals to keep check on the working.
She said that as per the directions of State Government, the working of these OOAT Centres, De-addiction and Rehabilitation centres is being scrutinized to bring further improvement to save the youth from the drug menace.
The DC Komal Mittal while approving the enhancement in food expenses provided at De -addiction and Rehabilitation centres, also gave nod to set up a canteen at District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Sector 66, Mohali.
Getting feedback from all the Senior Medical Officers, Psychiatrists and NGOs, she noted their suggestions patiently to work on them on coming days. She said that we should observe the footfall at Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment and proposal of relocating those having least footfall or otherwise no pateint to those areas where the OOAT Centres have overload of patients.
She said that in the coming days, she would visit the de+addiction and rehabilitation centres besides OOAT centres to check the working and need of infrastructural and other improvements. She emphasised on the need of maximum awareness as a preventive measure to caution the school and College going youth of the menace of drugs.
Additial Deputy Commissioner Sonam Chaudhary, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Parvinderpal Kaur, Assistant Civil Dr Girish Dogra, District Sports Officer Rupesh Kumar and SMOs and Psychiatrists from the government health facilities also joined the meeting and took part in delibeations to keep the youth away from drug abuse.
