Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Labour Department with a focus on court cases involving the government. The Deputy Commissioner issued clear directives to the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) and relevant departments to ensure regular court appearances to prevent ex parte decisions.
The need for increasing registration of workers with the Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board was highlighted. “There is imminent need of proactive measures to bring more construction workers into the ambit of welfare schemes to enhance their access to essential benefits,” the Deputy Commissioner stressed.
Additionally, the registration of contractors by principal employers was also addressed. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the authorities to expedite the process to mitigate issues related to wage payments and ensure timely disbursement to workers.
The meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting labour rights, improving court case management, and ensuring timely benefits for workers in the district. The meeting was attended by ACD, SE PHE, ALC, Xen JPDCL, Xen PWD(R&B), Labour Inspector and other concerned officers.
