The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, recently organized a special interactive session with Er. Gursharan Singh (Batch of 1981, Senior Vice President, Micron Technology, USA) and his team, a major milestone in PEC's increasing cooperation with the semiconductor sector.

The session was conducted on 7th February 2025, and the event concluded with an MoU signing ceremony between Micron Technology and PEC on 8th February 2025 during the Global Alumni Meet 2025.

This pioneering initiative is going to open the door to new avenues for students in the semiconductor field. The session was graced by Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, and Er. Manish Gupta (President, PECOSA), Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, and Dr. Simranjit Singh.

Prof. Arun Kumar Singh welcomed Er. Gursharan Singh with warm and genuine hospitality, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the profession and his dedication towards supporting the academic activities of PEC.

PEC Director, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, expressed sincere gratitude towards Er. Gursharan Singh and Micron Technology for the support, pointing out that industry-academia collaborations are the key to imparting real-world exposure and skill development to students.

The MoU signed between Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia and Er. Gursharan Singh lays the ground for scholarships, training programs with specializations, and increased placement opportunities for the students.

Throughout the interactive session, Er. Gursharan Singh offered valuable insights about the semiconductor market, key processes, and innovations at Micron Technology. He encouraged students to actively participate in the industry by acknowledging their work and offering them tokens of respect.

As a part of this outreach, 80 students are chosen to be a part of a joint course between the Department of ECE and Micron Technology aimed at offering experiential learning in semiconductor technology. This reinforces PEC's resolve to narrow the gap between industry and academia even more.

Mr. Shahebaz Saiyad provided insights to students through the application process for Micron's advanced programs, while the rest of the team provided an insightful peek into the latest industry trends and career opportunities.

The event wrapped up on a stimulating and interactive note, with students imbued with the motivation to go out and discover the vast potential in semiconductor technology. The PEC-Micron alliance is one of the notable steps in the direction of taking the institute closer to developing industry-driven learning and ensuring students' preparedness in coping with the challenges of an ever-changing world of technology.
