On the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy inaugurated a three-day classical singing and music event at the Rani Lakshmi Bai Auditorium, Sector 38. The event was inaugurated by Sanjay Tandon, National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Co-incharge of Himachal Pradesh BJP, who performed the ceremonial opening.

On the first day of this three-day event, the renowned classical vocalist Professor Harvinder Singh captivated everyone present at the auditorium with his mesmerizing performance. Accompanying him on tabla was Mithilesh Jha, whose sweet rhythms drew the audience in, while Professor Gurmeet Singh on harmonium added a magical touch to the ensemble with his duet performance alongside the vocalist and tabla player.

In another performance, the world-famous Sarangi player, Pandit Vinod Pawar, left the audience spellbound with the melodious waves of classical music on his sarangi, delivered in his enchanting style. Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Tandon shared that as he listened to the artists’ performances, he felt as though he had lost himself in their music.

The grip the artists had on melody and rhythm, along with their perfect synchronization, mesmerized everyone. He expressed that classical singing is an ancient heritage of our country, not just music but a medium through which every individual becomes imbued with positive and spiritual energy through melody, rhythm, and ragas.

The traditions and methods of classical singing also reflect the emotions of the guru and disciple. As you learn the notes and rhythm from your guru, you become more humble and simple in behavior.

This is the special characteristic of this music: each note and every rhythm effortlessly pulls you in, and you cannot stop yourself from swaying to its beat. Classical singing is a path to meditation in our culture. The bhajans sung and the performances bring to life the characters hidden within the bhajans, making them stand before you.

He also expressed special gratitude to all the office-bearers, members of the Academy, and the artists who performed on this occasion.
