Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), hosted an inspiring session aimed at unveiling career opportunities in the field of atomic energy.

Designed to ignite students’ curiosity, the event showcased pathways to meaningful careers that contribute to India’s energy and technological future. Dr. Vibhor Chaswal, a proud PEC alumnus and former DAE professional, set the stage with a warm introduction of the speakers and the purpose of the session.

The spotlight was on two distinguished experts: Dr. Arun Kumar Singh, Scientific Officer H at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), and Dr. Ram Chandra, an authority in Quality Control. Dr. Arun Kumar Singh took the audience on a journey through India’s atomic energy story, starting with the visionary establishment of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 1945 by Homi Bhabha.

He emphasized the critical need for India to transition from coal, which dominates energy consumption, to atomic energy for a cleaner, more sustainable future. Highlighting BARC’s multifaceted contributions from research and industrial applications to water resources, healthcare, food, and agriculture he painted a vivid picture of the potential this field holds.

Dr. Singh also spoke about the internship opportunities at BARC and its commitment to innovation and safety in atomic energy production. Dr. Ram Chandra continued the dialogue, shedding light on BARC’s cutting-edge facilities and the DAE’s focus on advanced training through its specialized schools.

He emphasized the rigorous preparation students undergo to join BARC, encouraging them to seize the opportunities offered through the GATE examination or the dedicated BARC entrance exam.

The session concluded with BARC’s tagline, “Come, grow with us,” leaving students motivated to explore this exciting field and play a role in shaping India’s future. This event reflected the shared vision of DAE, BARC, and PEC in fostering talent and advancing India’s capabilities in atomic energy.
