DC Sakshi Sawhney has signed a special Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Amritsar-based non-governmental organization, Phulkari, aimed at the holistic development of the district. The objective of this MoU is to foster better coordination between the members of Phulkari and the District Collector's office in promoting educational, health, cultural, and environmental initiatives, thus contributing to the overall development of Amritsar.

Under this agreement, opportunities will be created to provide skill-based training programs for women and youth, including workshops on handicrafts, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and skill development in various fields. These programs will be conducted jointly by government departments and Phulkari women of Amritsar.

Additionally, scholarships will be offered to girls from low-income families, along with career planning guidance and opportunities for higher education to shape their future. Phulkari women will also serve as advisors and visiting faculty for government schools and colleges, and will act as a 'think tank' for the local administration.

The MoU also includes the establishment of libraries, digital learning in government schools, leadership programs for women, and the organization of free or subsidized cervical cancer screening camps in rural and urban areas. It will also cover health awareness campaigns, ensuring recycling for environmental sustainability, and promoting eco-friendly practices. Furthermore, joint efforts will be made on policy reforms and initiatives focusing on gender equality, women's rights, health, urban planning, urban development, and education.
