BJP's electoral Victory
The BJP achieved its biggest result since the formation of the state in 1966 by winning 48 out of 90 seats in the Haryana Assembly on 8 October 2024. The victory reflects not only the party's ability to overcome the initial momentum of the Congress party but also its resilience in the face of anti-incumbency sentiment. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which were initially trailing in votes, were reduced to 37 seats, while other parties found it difficult to make a mark.
Support from Independent MLAs
Savitri Jindal, India's richest woman and a bussinesswomen, defeated Congress candidate Ram Niwas Rara by a margin of 18,941 votes in her victory as an independent candidate from Hisar. Jindal declared, "I want development for Hisar and want it to become a beautiful city," demonstrating her dedication to the city's development. Her decision to support the BJP is in line with her goals for regional development.
Along with them, BJP also got support from Rajesh Joon and Devender Kadyan, who contested as independent candidates after facing difficulties in their previous parties. Joon won in Bahadurgarh defeating Dinesh Kaushik of BJP, while Kadyan won in Ganaur defeating Kuldeep Sharma of Congress. Their support has strengthened the position of BJP and also increased its ability to govern.
Key Meetings and Future Prospects
The three independent MLAs met BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi after the election and talked about their possible future cooperation. Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli confirmed their readiness to support the party, saying, "All the three independent MLAs are very happy with the BJP's victory and they are willing to support the party." This indicates a powerful alliance that could have an impact on the legislative agenda of the upcoming term.
With the support of these independent members, the BJP leadership is confident that it can take development measures and address local concerns. Due to his stature in the commercial and political spheres, Jindal's participation is particularly noteworthy and could help Haryana attract more resources and investments.
