Today, Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh inaugurated its moot court society. The ceremony in the Aryans campus was attended by Dr. Shipra Gupta, Professor, Department of Law, Panjab university, Chandigarh & Dr. Ivneet Walia, Associate Professor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Dr. Devender Singla, Principal, Aryans College of Law was present.
Aryans law Students including BALLB & LLB attended the ceremony. The event commenced with lamp lighting ceremony followed by curtain raiser to inaugurate the society. Dr Shipra mentioned that Moot courts have been an integral part of the legal curriculum in Indian universities since 1985.
Moot court is a form of legal education that involves researching, writing, and presenting oral arguments on a given legal issue or problem. The term “moot” means “open to discussion”, and reflects the fact that moot court cases are usually based on unsettled or controversial areas of law.
Moot court cases can cover any branch of law, such as constitutional law, international law, criminal law, human rights law, etc. Dr. Walia while addressing said that the purpose of moot court is to train law students for their future careers by providing a realistic legal environment to develop and practice skills.
Moot court competitions help students develop skills like legal research, writing, and oral advocacy. It will students build confidence in presenting their arguments in front of judges and peers. Moot court is not only a co-curricular activity but also a valuable learning experience for law students. added walia.
