Bajrang Punia was born on 26 February 1994 in India. He is a freestyle wrestler of Indian origin. Bajrang Punia wrestles in the 65 kg India region. Bajrang Punia won the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by defeating Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan by a margin of 8-0 and won the bronze medal for India. Bajrang Punia is the only Indian athlete to win 4 medals in the World Wrestling Championship for India. Bajrang Punia was awarded the Arjuna Award by Pranab Mukherjee in 2015.

Bajrang Punia is going to contest from Julana seat and Vinesh Phogat from the the Badli seat on behalf of Congress. The Congress Central Election Committee is going to approve their names on Wednesday or Thursday.

Bajrang Punia started his career with the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championship. In this, he lost to Hwang Ryong-hak of North Korea by a margin of 3-1 and won the bronze medal in the 60 kg competition.

After the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championship, he also won the bronze medal in the 2013 World Wrestling Championship.
