A protest, spearheaded by CPI(M) leader and State President CITU Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, was staged by the Centre of India Trade Unions (CITU) J&K in Srinagar, demanding the repeal of labour codes. As per the news agency CNS, Tarigami said that the protest was held against the policies of the government, including the changing of labour laws into labour codes.
“It is being voiced throughout the country that the labour codes should be repealed whereas the labour laws should be enacted which were acquired after long struggle by our people,” Tarigami said. He also demanded the implementation of minimum wages in the country besides taking into account all the recommendations of labour conferences.
“Those recommendations should be enacted considering the exorbitant prices of commodities and growing dearness,” State President CITU said. Tarigami said that the promise needs to be fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
