Barnala district administration is mobilized to win the war against drugs. With the participation of every section of society, the menace shall be rooted out. Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mrs. Punamdeep Kaur said this while presiding over the meeting of the District Level Narcotics Coordination Committee held today. SSP Sandeep Malik was present with her.
In order to bring drug peddlers and drug addicts back into the mainstream in Barnala district, she instructed all the departments of district to ensure coordination with general public. In order to eradicate drugs from Barnala, rehabilitation of drug addicts, review of actions taken so far and preventive measures will be implemented.
SSP Mr. Sandeep Malik said that if the drug addicts are unable to pay the fees charged in the de-addiction centers, then police department can provide financial assistance to such persons. This will ensure that families and children of such people are not burdened with adverse effects of legal implications or arrest of the bread winners of families.
To make such families self-reliant, they will be given employment opportunities through Kaushal Vikas Yojana or other government schemes or through RSETI. She added that parents should keep a tab on activities of kids from class eighth onwards to ensure that the children do not fall prey to bad companionship.
She directed district education officer (Secondary) to ensure that every month 60 students from class 9th to +2 are shown videos depicting ill effects of drugs. Also it was directed to identify physically weak students and for groups of such students with the active children.
These groups will be given authority to conduct checking in 100 m radius of their school to check sale of cigarettes, tobacco products, medicines etc. SSP will depute Saanjh Kendra employees to accompany these teams while their conduct checking.
Education department as also directed to hold NCC/NSS camps to ensure that children develop a rapport with teachers and are able to confine confidential information about drugs in their teachers. As soon as a teacher gets information regarding purchase or sale of drugs, then he or she can inform at nearest police station.
The name of informant shall be kept confidential. SSP said that one can also give information regarding drugs on WhatsApp number 7508080280. Sports department has been directed to create sports grounds and infrastructure in villages that lack the same.
For this, the sports department will collaborate with block development panchayat officers and send its list of requirements to the DC office. Department has also been directed to ensure participation of youth clubs in villages. The volunteers that ensure maximum participation of youth in sports events will be honored at the Independence Day celebrations on Aug 15.
