In a momentous press conference held at Punjab Congress Bhawan, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition S. Pratap Singh Bajwa celebrated the Congress Party's resounding victory, having secured 7 out of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who achieved a significant victory over Ravneet Singh Bittu of Ludhiana, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Congress workers whose unwavering commitment and tireless efforts were pivotal in this triumph. He attributed the party's success to their relentless hard work, even in the face of formidable opposition tactics.
Criticizing the BJP government for freezing Congress party accounts, Warring lauded the vision and leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. He emphasized that the overwhelming mandate was a clear indication of the people's trust in the Congress Party and its vision for the welfare of the country.
Warring pointed out that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured only 3 seats, reflecting the disillusionment of the Punjabi electorate with AAP's governance. He also highlighted the decline of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which managed to win just one seat, indicating the public's rejection of their alliance with the BJP.
The BJP's failure to win any seats in Punjab was seen as a response to their policies, particularly those affecting farmers. This victory, Warring stated, is dedicated to the hardworking Congress workers and the supportive people of Punjab.
He extended warm appreciation to CLP Bajwa for his cooperation and teamwork, which were instrumental in the party's success. Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Warring expressed confidence that the Congress Party would continue to work diligently for the welfare of Punjabis, ensuring their continued support.
Bajwa congratulated Warring on his win and acknowledged the other victorious candidates, including Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa from Gurdaspur, Charanjit Channi from Jalandhar, Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi from Patiala, Dr. Amar Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib, and Sher Singh Ghubaya from Ferozepur. He also recognized Manish Tiwari, who won the Chandigarh seat, as part of their collective success.
Bajwa noted AAP's significant loss of 60 seats, reducing their total from 92 to 32, as a testament to the public's dissatisfaction with their governance. He called for Bhagwant Mann's resignation in light of AAP's poor performance.
Bajwa reiterated that even the defeated candidates had shown commendable effort, underscoring the unified and collective spirit of the Congress Party. He reaffirmed the party's commitment to engaging with all Punjabis, including those who did not vote for them, to address their concerns and work towards the state's prosperity.
Warring added this is the first time in 26 years that the BJP have been completely wiped out in Punjab. Also, a 40 year hold on the Ferozpur seat by the Akali Dal has also been broken. This has all been due to the hardwork of the party during the last 2 years. Leaders like Sunil Jakhar leaving the party fold have worked in the favour of the Congress party.
Answering queries by the media, Warring said that all tactics by the opposition leaders to demean Congress leaders during the election campaign faltered. He further highlighted how the turncoats were shown the door by the populace of Punjab and proper governance and work for the state was given priority by the people while casting their vote.
The press conference concluded with a strong message of unity, hard work, and dedication to the welfare of Punjab and its people. The Congress Party vowed to continue its mission of serving every Punjabi and working towards a brighter future for the state.
