An amount of Rs. 3.18 crore (Rs. 3 crore 18 lakhs, 75 thousand) has been released to District Mansa in respect of the financial assistance of Rs. 51000 to the needy families on the marriage of the girl. Under the instructions of the Minister of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Rs. 2 crore 43 thousand were released for the scheduled castes and 1 crore 18 lakh 32 thousand rupees for the backward classes and economically weaker sections.
Giving information in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Baldeep Kaur said that 3 crore 18 lakh 75 thousand rupees have been released in Mansa district under the Aashirwad scheme, in which 2 crore 43 thousand rupees have been released for the beneficiaries of scheduled castes, which would benefit 393 beneficiaries of the district.
Similarly, 1 crore 18 lakh 32 thousand rupees have been released for the beneficiaries belonging to backward classes and economically weaker sections, which number 232. She said that under the Aashirwad scheme, girls from Scheduled Castes/Christian communities, widowed girls of any caste, girls from backward classes and economically backward families at the time of marriage and Scheduled Caste widows/divorced women at the time of their remarriage would get Financial assistance of Rs.51000/- as a Shagan.
District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Mr. Jagsir Singh Sidhu said that the amount is being sent to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the DBT mode and soon the amount is also being released to the remaining beneficiaries by the government.
