Akshay Kumar’s recent release, Samrat Prithviraj, which hit the theatres on June 3, has been disastrous at the box office. But recently, the film has been making headlines as, according to multiple media sources, performances were cancelled owing to low attendance. According to reports, the dismal box office performance of Akshay Kumar's film has resulted in the cancellation of shows in numerous locations. Reports from various news portals revealed that exhibitors were losing a lot of money owing to low attendance, so they decided to reduce the number of shows on a daily basis.
According to reports, the film's shows in many circuits are being cancelled and flushed out due to low attendance in order to make room for more commercially viable shows of other films, similar to the fate of Kangana Ranaut's ''Dhaakad,' which reportedly made just Rs 4,400 on day 8 of its release with only 20 tickets sold across India.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Samrat Prithviraj continues its downward trend... Trending is extremely weak, there's zilch hope to cover lost ground on weekdays or next weekend...Fri 10.70 cr, Sat 12.60 cr, Sun 16.10 cr, Mon 5 cr, Tue 4.25 cr. Total: ₹ 48.65 cr. #India biz.”
'Samrat Prithviraj', which has been produced by YRF production, and directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, opened in theatres on June 3 where it clashed with two films from different territories - the trilingual 'Major' (Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam) and the pan-India 'Vikram' starring Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi. The other two films have made their way into the hearts of people and did well among the fans and critics.
Meanwhile, speaking of the film, it was a historical period drama that narrates the story of legendary warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan (Kumar), who fought against Muhammad of Ghor (Manav Vij). further, Manushi Chhillar made her Bollywood debut with Samrat Prithviraj by playing Chauhan's wife, Sanyogita. Also, Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt played pivotal roles in the film. Before Samrat Prithviraj, Akshay Kumar was seen in Atrangi Re and Bachchhan Paandey and both these films have also upset the audience and were catastrophic at BO.
