Lok Sabha Member from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh today asked the officers/ officials to ensure that ongoing development works in the district were completed in a time-bound and result oriented manner, so that the people of the district benefited from it.Chairing a meeting of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) here at the District Administrative Complex, the Lok Sabha Member, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, reviewed the ongoing works of all the departments especially Education, Agriculture, Social Welfare, Health, Municipal Corporation, Water Supply and Sanitation, Rural Development and others. He directed the social security department to launch an awareness drive to promote National Pension Assistance Program (NPAP) aimed at facilitating specially-abled, widows, and old age persons so that they could get the benefit of these schemes.The MP took stock of some of the road projects comprising 6.99 KM long Partapura road to Jamsher T-point at a cost of Rs. 3.15 crore, 10.55 km stretch of Adampur to Kishanpur road at Rs. 4.95 crore, 7.89 km portion of G.T. road to Kang Jagir Apra at Rs. 3.40 crore, Apra to Dhuleta 6.72 km road costing Rs. 2.97 crore, 17.46 km long Goraya to Jandiala road at Rs. 7.55 crore, 13.11 km long Nakodar to Jandiala link road at an outlay of Rs. 10.17 crore, link road from Nakodar to Mehatpur at Rs. 9.11 crore, and Parjian Kalan to Shahkot link road at Rs. 4.11 crore. He categorically mentioned that all works under these road projects including strengthening and widening of roads to be completed in a time-bound manner.
While reviewing Pardhan Mantri Awas Yojna both, Mr. Chaudhry stated that a sum of Rs. 24 crore have been received for the urban beneficiaries of which around Rs. 12.47 crore were spent already; he directed the municipal authority to incur the remaining funds within stipulated time-frame.The MP further added that as many as 19840 toilets have been constructed in all ten development blocks at an outlay of Rs. 2.97 crore adding work of community Sanitary complexes was already started in 42 villages. He also reviewed projects worth Rs. 1984.50 crore under the smart city mission where he passed directions to the officials to execute all projects within timeline.Overseeing the schemes related to the education department, Mr. Chaudhry said that it was the need of the hour to provide students with all kinds of necessary infrastructure to make them able to learn faster. He analyzed works to distribute uniforms, books, construction of smart schools, and availability of modern facilities in the government schools to check the progress made under these projects. The MP also reviewed Implementation of National Food Security Act, Member Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), Prime Minister Employment Generation Program, Pardhan Mantri Kaushan Vikas Yojna, Ujjwala Yojna, Integrated Child Development Scheme besides others.Batting for optimum utilization of funds under the government schemes, the Lok Sabha MP said that it would ensure that money was spent in the right direction. He also underlined the need for encouraging the Self Help Groups by starting a special drive for setting up such groups in villages thereby empowering the women. Chaudhary Santokh Singh also stressed on the need for optimum utilization of NREGA scheme for giving a major push to the rural development in the district.Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori asked the officials to play a proactive role in delivering the benefit of these schemes to underprivileged and weaker sections of the society so that welfare of masses through these schemes could be ensured.Prominent amongst others present in the meeting included Chairman District Planning Board Manoj Arora, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Karnesh Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Jaspreet Singh, ADC (UD) Himanshu Jain, SDMs Harpreet Singh Atwal, Balraj Raj Singh, Poonam Singh, and representatives of various departments.
