First Mobile Science Exhibition Van flagged off at Leh

Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, Prahlad Singh Patel flagged off the first Mobile Science Exhibition from Leh Palace today in presence of Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal, Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas and Secretary Culture, GoI, Arun Goel,Others present on the occasion were Director General, ASI, Usha Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Sachin Kumar, Jt. Sec. Culture, Addl. District Development Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang and Director, CIBS Leh, Prof. Konchok Wangdus.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that there were only 23 such Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) Vans for the entire country since 1965. He said that the objective is to create scientific awareness in the society, inculcate a spirit of enquiry and inspire youngsters to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.Making a mention of nationwide campaign of Swacch Bharat and its success, the Minister said that Prime Minister has started another such campaign to free India from single use plastic. He stressed on the need for Ladakhis to hold their commitment to stop single use plastic before emerging into Ladakh UT. He urged Hill Council, public and stakeholders in tourism sector to take necessary steps from the first day with adequate facilities like waste segregation at common place and its proper disposal to get certified as the cleanest region in the country in the next 6 months.He further said that before Ladakh UT comes into force, Ladakhis need to set their developmental agendas and other goals on priority. He expressed pleasure that the people of Ladakh are already well-informed and prepared to step into the UT.It is pertinent to mention that the Mobile Science Exhibition or Museo-Bus shall organize exhibitions for the students throughout the year. In initial one month, the programme shall be conducted for the students of Leh and surrounding areas. The programme started at Boys Higher Secondary School today and then it will extend its coverage upto sub-divisional headquarters ensuring participation of rural students.
