Football tourney begins under “Khelo India”

The Department of Youth Services and Sports today organized a block level football tournament under “Khelo India” at Parade Ground, Kishtwar.The tournament was inaugurated by DDC, Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana in which 48 teams hailing from different zones including Padder, Nagseni, Inderwal, Kishtwar and Drabshalla would be participating.The Khelo India programme was introduced by Ministry of Sports and Youth affairs to revive sports culture in India at grassroots level. The objective of the programme is to build strong framework for sports played in our country and establish India as great sporting nation. It is expected to help scout young talent from schools in various disciplines and groom them as future sports champions.The talented players would be identified in priority sports disciplines at various levels by High-Powered Committed and each would player would be provided an annual financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for eight years.The initiative is aimed at providing a platform to the talented youth to showcase their hidden skills and utilize their capabilities at the professional level.On this occasion, the DDC interacted with the players and said that we have to come forward in the field of sports so that we can compete not only at national level but at international level.SSP Kishtwar Abrar Ahmed Chowdhary and Principals of various government and private institutions were present on the occasion.
